“The Anchor is the most welcoming place in Manchester.”

“It’s like a coffee shop version of the Apple store. Very neat and not over doing it. But mostly, amazing service.”

“Lovely, clean space that’s good not only for its supply of Monmouth Coffee, but also its seriously tasty bagels.”

“On the outside it’s all clean lines and style, which jars somewhat with the less than polished Rusholme area. You’d think it would be expensive, but it isn’t. It’s a humble reflection of what a available. The Anchor is truly an anchor – it extends an arm: they have an outreach programme for the hungry, for those living below the poverty line.”

We proudly serve Monmouth Coffee at The Anchor because of their amazingly high standards, incredible business ethics and commitment to taste.

The company started roasting and retailing coffee in 1978 and they only sell coffee purchased from single farms, estates and cooperatives. By cutting out the traditional wholesale supply chain, Monmouth can establish working relationships directly with every farmer or producer. This personal connection changes everything; from the money the creators get per bag sold, to the quality of bean arriving at Monmouth’s roastery in Bermondsey.

When you drink a cup of Monmouth Coffee the first thing you notice is the flavour. The team are constantly refining and re-profiling their roasts to ensure that the very best product is packaged up and sent to us here in Manchester.

Not only does it taste incredible, but when you drink a cup of Monmouth Coffee you can also be sure that those who produced the beans have been properly valued for their great work. Monmouth do not buy anonymously, they know where their coffee is coming from and who makes it.

We believe that buying a cup of coffee for someone else is a simple but profound act of awareness. It is charity without judgement and kindness without preference, a way for local people to support one another and foster community.

When you are buying food or drink at The Anchor you can simply add a Suspended Coffee to your order for an extra £2 charge. That money will then be spent on providing coffee, food and more through the community projects we run from The Anchor to help serve the wider community.

The entire system is based on good faith and kindness; those that buy do not know who gets the coffee and help; those that receive do not know who bought it for them. It is a gift freely given and freely received, one that lets the community show care and lets the individual know they have people looking out for them.
